One of the very best sons of retired five times champion South African sire Silvano, Hawwaam has arrived at Wilgerbosdrift Farm, his place of birth, following his return from the United Kingdom.
Speaking on his website, www.mikedekockracing.com, Mike de Kock commented: “It’s wonderful to have Hawwaam back, and having a horse you trained go to stud gives any trainer a sense of pride and achievement., especially one you bought as a yearling.
“Jehan Malherbe and I also bought Vercingetorix and Rafeef as yearlings and to see them go on to successful careers as stud has been very satisfying.
“We wish Mary Slack and Wilgerbosdrift all the best with Hawwaam, who has the pedigree, looks and Gr1 winning record to make it big at stud!”
South Africa’s Champion 3YO of 2018-2019, Hawwaam won ten of 13 starts, with his victories including five at Gr1 level.
His victories included a pair of triumphs in the Gr1 Premier’s Champions Challenge, as well as the G1 H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes, Gr1 Daily News 2000 – a race won previously by outstanding sire Dynasty as well as the increasingly successful Vercingetorix – and Gr1 SA Classic.
Hawwaam, who won a total of eight graded races during his career, was a R1 million buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale.
He is one of three Gr1 winners produced by Jet Master’s Gr3 Prix Du Cap winning daughter Halfway To Heaven, South Africa’s Broodmare Of The Year in both 2018-2019 and 2019-2020.
