Debut Feature Winner For Erupt

Maine Chance Farms’ blue blooded stallion Erupt made headlines at Turffontein’s abbreviated meeting on Sunday when his son Karangetang ran out an easy winner of the Listed Storm Bird Stakes (1000m) on debut.
In the process, the Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred colt became the first stakes winner for his dual G1 winning sire.

Trained by Johan Janse Van Vuuren, Karangetang was given a patient ride by Keagan De Melo.
The latter allowed his mount to settle just off the front runners, before unleashing his colt 200m from home.
From there, Karangetang exploded away, with the Erupt colt drawing off in the closing stages to score as he liked by two and a half lengths.

A R300 000 buy from last year’s National Yearling Sale, Karangetang joins Set To Go as early first crop winners for Erupt.

The latter, a true globe-trotter who competed in all of Canada, Great Britain, France, and Japan, won five times including the G1 Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris, G1 Pattison Canadian International and G3 Prix du Lys.

Erupt is a son of outstanding sire Dubawi, whose more than 220 stakes winning progeny include such proven and promising stallions Makfi, Night Of Thunder, New Bay, Poet’s Voice, and Zarak.

Out of G3 winner Mare Nostrum, Erupt hails from the same female line as champion sires Encosta De Lago, Flying Spur and Holy Roman Emperor.
