The Narrow Creek Stud-bred Elusive Fort gelding Catch Twentytwo is one of nine runners who will line up in the Group 3 level weights Earl Of Sefton Stakes over one-mile-and-one furlong (1800m) on Newmarket’s Rowley Mile next Tuesday at 16h00 South African time.
The Group 2-winning 2000 Guineas runner up Master Of The Seas (Dubawi) is the best performed runner in the field and has an OR (Official Rating) of 117.
The Group 3 winner Megallan (Kingman), who runs in the colours of Anthony Oppenheimer (Mary Slack’s second cousin) has an OR of 112.
The 2020 Cambridgeshire winner and now six-year-old Majestic Dawn (Dawn Approach) has an OR of 111.
The former Paul Peter-trained Catch Twentytwo won the 2020 Grade 2 WSB Dingaans over a mile and the Grade 3 Tony Ruffel Stakes over 1400m.
He subsequently gained two Grade 1 seconds from 1600m to 1800m and a Grade 1 third over 1800m as well as two Grade 2 runner up finishes from 1400m to 1600m.
He is a big strong horse which gives hope that he can gallop through the ground on a UK course, which is usually tougher going than the generally fast South African ground.
Catch Twentytwo was originally bound for this year’s Dubai Carnival but did not make it due to a delay in Mauritius.
He is being trained at Newmarket by Jane Chapple-Hyam.
He is owned by the ASSM Syndicate (Arun Chadha and Warne Rippon) and Ian Levitan, and has a Rafeef half brother on offer at the National Yearling Sale as Lot 422. Catch Twentytwo is a full brother to Gr2 winner, Big Burn, also trained by Paul Peter.
He will be ridden by Robert Tart.
