Buffalo Bill Cody First Runner A Winner

Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting young stallion Buffalo Bill Cody made the perfect start to his stud career when his very first runner, Pistol Pete, made a sparkling, winning debut at the Vaal on Tuesday.
Trained by Tony Peter, the flashy two-year-old was quickly away in Tuesday’s TAB Telebet 0861 000 822 Maiden Juvenile Plate (1000m) and was never headed.
Under Calvin Habib, Pistol Pete, who showed tremendous cruising speed, drew off to score on debut by two and a quarter lengths.
His jockey described the colt as “an exciting horse to look forward to”, and Pistol Pete looks to be a fine advertisement for his young sire.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Pistol Pete was an R380 000 purchase from the 2023 Cape Yearling Sale.
The colt is out of the Tiger Ridge mare Oklahoma Sky.
His sire Buffalo Bill Cody showed tremendous ability as a racehorse, winning six of just ten starts and reeling off six wins from his first seven starts.
Buffalo Bill Cody is a son of triple Australian Champion Sire Redoute’s Choice, whose sire sons include four times Australian Champion Sire Snitzel, the hugely successful Not A Single Doubt, and top South African stallion Rafeef.
Buffalo Bill Cody has ten lots on offer at the 2024 Cape Yearling Sale, including a filly (Lot 61) whose dam is a three-part sister to champion Igugu, and a half-brother (Lot 97) to Listed Swallow Stakes winner Freed From Desire.
