Mauritzfontein’s grey son of Deep Impact, sire Danon Platina made headlines at Turffontein on Monday. His daughter White Pearl gained a well deserved first Graded win when she won Monday’s Gr2 Mike De Kock Ipi Tombe Challenge over 1600 metres.
Trained appropriately enough by Mike De Kock, four-year-old White Pearl was given a peach of a ride by Piere Strydom in Monday’s R500 000 feature. Strydom bought his mount with a perfectly timed challenge to get up close home and score by a long neck.
In the process, White Pearl accounted for such notable graded stakes winners as Silver Sanctuary, Let’s Go Now, VJ’s Angel and None Other.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, White Pearl has won four of 18 starts for earnings of R1,072,375.
Placed in seven graded races prior to Monday’s win, White Pearl, who is out of the Tiger Ridge mare Oyster Pond, was a R450 000 buy from the 2022 August Two Year Old Sale.
Her sire Danon Platina has been in good form of late, with the stallion’s G3 Cape Classic winning son Great Plains running a creditable third in the recent G1 Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas.
Another classy runner sired by Danon Platina is Knockout, who finished second in the 2024 G3 SplashOut Victress Stakes.
