Drakenstein R9-Million Colt At Premier Sale

Drakenstein R9-Million Colt At Premier Sale

Drakenstein Stud have produced the joint sales-record holder in South Africa at Thursdays Day 1 Cape Racing Sales Premier Yearling Sale, as Lot 85, Wreath Of Snow, sold to Greg Bortz for R9-million.

The impeccably bred colt by Vercingetorix out of super racemare Snowdance, by Captain Al, was bred and consigned by Drakenstein Stud.

Snowdance, a five-time winner including the Gr1 Cape Fillies Guineas and Majorca Stakes, is the dam of Gr1 winner Snow Pilot (Lancaster Bomber) and Symphony In White (What A Winter), placed in the Gr1 Allan Robertson Championship.

It is the famed Spring Lilac family, that has recently seen relative Eight On Eighteen become a dual Gr1 winner in the last two months, and sprinting filly Golden Sickle. Greg Bortz has enjoyed significant success with Vercingetorix who has produced two Gr1 winners for his light blue colours, Pomp And Power and more recently, Oriental Charm.

The record equals Bloodstock South Africa’s National Yearling Sale in 2019 when a Silvano colt sold for R9-million.

The sale continues on Day 2, Friday, from 4pm.
